A schooner captain from the harbor called as he and the crew at a local boat yard had pooled their funds for a commission of “Grayling”, a catboat belonging to the yard owner who was scheduled for major surgery. I was reluctant to commit, intimidated by the thought of painting a beloved sailboat for a bunch of guys who knew so much about boats. But when I did, it reminded me of how lucky I am to be a painter, to be a part of telling and preserving these local stories.
